Working Principle of Vertical Edge Trim Winder

The trim winder serves as the "cleaner" and "safety guard" on a web converting production line. It handles edge trim waste at high speed, in a neat and automatic manner, ensuring production continuity while improving operational safety and housekeeping management on the shop floor.

The core advantages of a trim winder are reflected in the following aspects:

1. High Operating Efficiency and Wide Speed Range
The trim winder can run synchronously with the main production line, reaching maximum speeds of 500–600 m/min. It is fully capable of matching the pace of high-speed production lines, ensuring that trim waste handling does not become a production bottleneck.

2. Excellent Winding Quality – Pineapple Pattern Winding Technology
High-quality trim winders utilize precision pineapple pattern winding technology, which causes the trim to form a regular, interleaved pattern on the winding shaft rather than simply layering flat. This effectively prevents the trim roll from developing a tapered shape or side collapse, ensuring a tightly wound roll that is easy to handle and transport.

3. Precise Tension Control
Closed-loop tension control is achieved by using precision sensors to monitor the position of a dancer arm. This ensures that the trim maintains an appropriate level of tension throughout the winding process – neither too loose (which would cause an unstable roll) nor too tight (which could break the trim).

4. Even Traverse Layering, Space Saving
The trim winder is equipped with an automatic reciprocating traverse mechanism (such as a bidirectional camshaft or an electronically controlled traversing system), which causes the trim to wind back and forth along the axis of the winding shaft. This design effectively reduces the outer diameter of the trim roll, prevents localized bulging caused by uneven winding, and results in a more compact trim roll that saves storage space.

Interlocked control with the main line: Enables start/stop synchronization with the production line.

Automatic web break detection: Automatically stops the machine and triggers an alarm when the trim breaks or when winding is completed.

What is the warranty period of the equipment? What are the wearing parts? What is the replacement cycle?

The whole machine warranty period is 1 year, and core components (servo motors, PLC) have a 2-year warranty. Wearing parts mainly include knives, belts, sealing rings, bearings, etc. Knife replacement cycle is 1-3 months (depending on material hardness and usage frequency), belts 3-6 months, bearings 6-12 months. We will provide a list of common wearing parts and preferential spare parts prices.

How long does installation and commissioning take? Will you send someone to provide on-site training?

Standard model installation and debugging take 3–5 days. For international customers, we dispatch professional engineers to perform on-site installation and debugging, along with 1–2 days of training for operators covering equipment operation, daily maintenance, and common troubleshooting.

What should I do if the equipment breaks down? How fast is your after-sales response?

We provide 7×24 hours technical support, and general faults can be solved through remote guidance. For home visits, we will arrange them within 48 hours.

What is the function of edge trim winder? Is it necessary to equip one?

Trimming Winder is used to collect edge waste generated during slitting process, winding waste into neat rolls for convenient recycling and keeping the workshop clean and tidy. If you generate a large amount of production waste, a trimming winder is recommended for film materials, while an edge shredder is suitable for paper materials. It can greatly boost waste recycling efficiency and cut down manual cleaning time.

What is the maximum edge width the edge trim winder can handle? What is the rewinding diameter?

The standard trimming winder handles waste edges with a width ranging from 3 mm to 40 mm, and its maximum winding diameter is 400 mm. Custom sizes are available upon request.
